About Jama'are Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Jama’are local government area is situated in Bauchi state, Northeast Nigeria with its headquarters in Jama’are town. The area hosts the illustrious Jama’are Emirate and is made up of a number of towns and villages which include Dogon, Jeji, Hanafari, Galdimari, Jurara, and Jama’are. The estimated population of Jama’are LGA is put at 186,713 inhabitants with the most prominent tribe in the area being the Fulani. The Hausa and the Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the LGA. Important landmarks in the LGA include the Bauchi state University’s faculty of Agriculture and the General Hospital Jama’are.

Jama’are LGA sits on a total area of 493 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 31 degrees centigrade. The popular Jama’are river flows through the LGA with average humidity level of the area put at 41 percent. The average wind speed in Jama’are LGA is estimated at 12 km/h.


ECONOMY OF JAMA'ARE

Farming is the major contributor to the economy of Jama’are LGA with crops such as cotton, cowpea, sorghum, millet, and onions grown in the area. Also, a number of domestic animals such as rams, goats, and cattle are grown in Jama’are LGA. Other important economic enterprises undertaken by the people of Jama’are LGA include trade, hunting, and the weaving and dyeing of cotton.
