About Shira Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Shira local government area is situated in Bauchi state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Yana and the LGA is made up of several towns and villages such as Bakul, Dunmagari, Gallari, Yana, Zabi, Ligadi, Taru, Bulkalori, and Malori. The estimated population of Shira LGA is put at 169,419 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area. Shira LGA is part of the Katagum Emirate and has a number of landmarks such as the Government Girls Secondary School and the Mothercat Construction Company.


GEOGRAPHY OF SHIRA

Shira LGA occupies a total area of 1321 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies along the Shira River Basin and has an average humidity level of 28 percent.


ECONOMY OF SHIRA

Farming is a critical aspect of the economy of Shira LGA with crops such as wheat and millet grown in large quantities within the area. Animals such as cows, donkeys, and sheep are also reared and sold in the LGA. Other important economic enterprises that are engaged in by the people of Shira LGA include fishing, crafts making, pottery, and wood carving.
