About Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Tafawa Balewa local government area is domiciled in Bauchi state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Tafawa Balewa and the area is made up of several towns and villages which include Gongo, Gumel, Malanchi, Gital, Kuturu, Bununu, and Zul. The current estimated population of Tafwa Balewa LGA is put at 254, 701 inhabitants with the area primarily populated by members of the Sayawa ethnic affiliation. The Saya language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. A number of festivals are held in Tafawa Balewa LGA and these include the NAA LAP Dance festival.

Tafawa Balewa LGA has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade and has the Gongola River flowing past parts of its territory. The LGA has a tropical climate and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average wind speed in Tafawa Balewa LGA is put at 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF TAFAWA BALEWA

Farming is an important feature in the economy of Tafawa Balewa LGA with crops such as rice, beans, guineacorn, and millet grown in the LGA. A number of domestic animals are also reared and sold in the area. Other occupations undertaken by the people of Tafawa Balewa LGA include food processing, hunting, and welding.
