About Toro Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Toro local government area is situated in Bauchi state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Toro with the LGA made up of a number of towns and villages which include Panshanu, Muja Berkete, Toro, Pingel, Tama, Zalau, Boloji, and Magama Gumau. The current estimated population of Toro LGA is put at 449,819 inhabitants with the area primarily inhabited by members of the Panawa, Jarawa, Izere, and Hausa/Fulani ethnic groups. The languages of Zeem, Hausa, and Fufulde are commonly spoken in Toro LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Toro LGA include the Geji Rock Paintings and the Government College Toro.


GEOGRAPHY OF TORO

Toro LGA occupies a total area of 6932 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 32 degrees centigrade. The LGA hosts the Owa Panawa hills and the Geji rock with the average wind speed in the area put at 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF TORO

Farming is an important occupation of the people of Toro LGA with crops such as potatoes and onions grown in substantially large quantities within the area.  A number of minerals are also deposited in commercial quantities within Toro LGA and these include Columbite. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Toro LGA include food processing, trade, and animal rearing.
