Ekiti

Ekiti local government area is found in Kwara state, Northcentral Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Araromi Opin. A number of towns and villages make up Ekiti LGA and these include Etan, Isapa, Ejiu, Obbo-Ile, Eruku, Ajuba, Osi, and Oke-Opin. The estimated population of Ekiti LGA is 100,054 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic division. The Yoruba and English languages are widely spoken in the LGA while Christianity and Islam are the commonly practiced religions in the LGA. Ekiti LGA hosts a number of festivals such as the Osi-Ekiti festival which draws people from within and outside the Ekiti LGA.

Ekiti LGA occupies a total area of 480 square kilometres and the area witnesses two major seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons. The average temperature of the area is 27 degrees centigrade while the average wind speed of the area is put at 12 km/h.

ECONOMY OF EKITI

Farming is a major economic activity in Ekiti LGA with a variety of crops such as Cocoa, oil palm, coconuts and pepper grown in the area. Trade also booms in the area with the LGA hosting several markets where dwellers of the area come to buy and sell a variety of items. Other important enterprises in Ekiti LGA include textile weaving and mining.
