About Isin Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Isin local government area is domiciled in Kwara state, Northcentral geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Owu Isin. The LGA is made up of a number of towns and villages which include Isanlu Isin , Iwo, Oke-Onigbin, Edidi, Iji, Alla, Oponda, Eleyin, and Ijara Isin. The estimated population of Isin LGA is 93,075 inhabitants with the area’s major dwellers being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Igbomina dialect of the Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and islam are practiced in the area. Isin LGA has a number of prominent traditional rulers and these include the Olusin of Isanlu Isin. Popular festivals held in Isin LGA include the Egungun and the Agbasin festivals while notable landmarks in the area include the Baptist grammar school and the Isanlu Isin comprehensive college.


GEOGRAPHY OF ISIN

Isin LGA covers a total area of 633 square kilometres and has an average annual temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of the LGA is 51 percent while the total precipitation of the area is put at 1600 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF ISIN

Farming is a key economic activity for the people of Isin LGA with a wide variety of crops grown in the area. The area also has a viable trade sector and hosts a number of markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Cattle rearing by Fulani nomads is another important feature of the economy of Isin LGA.

HISTORY OF ISIN

Isin LGA was created from the Irepodun LGA in 1996.
