About Kaiama Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kaiama local government area is in Kwara state, North-central Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Kaiama. Towns and villages that make up Kaiama LGA include Gwanabe, Woro, Kemanji, Gwaria, Gbajibo, Kabaru, Bani, and Woro. The estimated population of Kaiama LGA is put at 204,613 inhabitants with the area hosting a number of tribes with the predominant being the Bokobaru ethnic sub-division. The Bokobaru language is extensively spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are commonly practiced within the area. A number of indigenous festivals are held in Kaiama LGA and these include the Gaani festival.


GEOGRAPHY OF KAIAMA

Kaiama LGA covers a total area of 6,971 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of the LGA is put at 50 percent while the average wind speed is estimated at 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF KAIAMA

A number of mineral deposits are found in Kaiama LGA and these include gold, tantalite, and granite. Farming is also an important economic activity with a number of crops such as yam and pepper grown in the area. Kaiama LGA is also known for substantially large outputs of Yam flour with the area hosting a number of food processing industries. Other important economic activities undertaken by the people of Kaiama LGA include trade and animal rearing.
