About Oke - Ero Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Oke ero local government area is situated in Kwara state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Iloffa. Towns and villages that make up Oke ero LGA include Imode, Egosi, Kajola, Ekan Nla, Ilale, Erin Mope, Ayedun, and Idofin. The current estimated population of Oke ero LGA is put at 172,091 inhabitants with the area mostly inhabited by members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Oke ero LGA include the Alofa of Iloffa and the Elegosi and Egosi while the popular festivals celebrated in the area include the Egungun, Oloku, and Eji.


GEOGRAPHY OF OKE - ERO

Oke ero LGA covers a total area of 438 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 29 degrees centigrade. The area hosts a number of elevations such as the Ore and Ojokolo mountains as well as the Are hills. Oke Aro LGA falls within the Tropical Savannah vegetation and has an average wind speed of 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF OKE - ERO

Oke ero LGA has a rich agricultural heritage with crops such as cocoa, sugarcane, banana, cotton, and oil palm grown in large quantities within the area. Trade also flourishes in the LGA with the area hosting several markets which provide platforms for the exchange of a wide variety of goods and services. Other important economic activities in Oke ero LGA include bead making, pottery and wood carving.
