About Irepodun Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Irepodun local government area is domiciled in Osun state, Southwest region of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ilobu with the LGA comprising of several towns and villages such as Erin, Ilobu, Olorunsogo, Elegudu, Ogundaro, Agborogun, Iyaloja, and Ogunlana. The estimated population of Irepodun LGA is put at 113, 499 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is extensively spoken in the area while Christianity, traditional religion and Islam are the most practiced religions in the area. Notable landmarks in Irepodun LGA include the Erinle shrine and the Ilobu Museum.


GEOGRAPHY OF IREPODUN

Irepodun LGA covers a total area of 64 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The area is sparsely forested and has an average humidity level of 62 percent. The area has a number of rivers and streams flowing within its territory and these include the Ojutu and the Erinle Rivers.


ECONOMY OF IREPODUN

Cotton dyeing is a major economic activity in Irepodun LGA with the area known for the massive production of ‘Adire’. Trade also booms in the area with the LGA hosting a number of markets such as the olubo and Adio markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. The people of Irepodun LGA also engage in farming, hunting, and craftsmanship.

Irepodun LGA was created in the year 1976.
