About Patigi Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Patigi local government area is situated in Kwara state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria with headquarters in the town of Patigi. The LGA is the headquarters of the Patigi Emirate and the area is made up of several towns and villages such as Kpada, Lade, Patigi, Gbadekin, Dangifu, Gamejefu, Lagada, and Lanlegi. The LGA has an estimated population of 201,745 inhabitants with the area primarily inhabited by members of the Nupe ethnic group. The Nupe language is commonly spoken in Patigi LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the area. Notable festivals held in Patigi LGA include the Patigi Boat Regatta festival while the paramount traditional ruler in the LGA is the Etsu Patigi.


GEOGRAPHY OF PATIGI

Patigi LGA lies off the banks of the Niger River with the average temperature of the area put at 29 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average wind speed in the LGA put at 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF PATIGI

Patigi LGA hosts a vibrant trade sector with a number of markets such as the Yagba market found in the area. Farming is also an important economic activity in Patigi LGA with crops such as melon, millet, guineacorn, and rice. The LGA is also a hub for economic enterprises such as fishing, animal rearing, and food processing.
