About Akoko South West Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Akoko southwest local government area is in Ondo state, Southwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Oka. Akoko Southwest LGA consists of several towns and villages which include Alegunle, Iwaro, Oka-Akoko, Iboropa, Ikakumo, Ise. Akoko southwest LGA has an estimated population of 189,056 inhabitants with the Yoruba as the dominant tribe in the area.

Islam and Christianity are the widely practiced faiths while the Yoruba and English languages are commonly spoken in the area. Popular festivals held in Akoko southwest include the Odun Ijesu and the Egungun festivals. The area features a number of landmarks which include the Oke Maria, the Central Mosque Akoko and the Jensharon company.  


GEOGRAPHY OF AKOKO SOUTH WEST

Akoko Southwest LGA covers a total area of 226 km squared and falls under the tropical savannah climate. The humidity of the area is estimated at 60 percent while the average temperature is pegged at 28 degrees centigrade.


ECONOMY OF AKOKO SOUTH WEST

Agriculture is an important economic activity in the area with trade as another key feature. The Akoko Southwest LGA has a number of markets which include the Aluta market and the Ibaka market which provide meeting points for traders and buyers to transact business.
