About Ese-odo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ese Odo local government area is in Ondo state, Southwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of  Igbeketo . The towns and villages that make up Ese Odo LGA include Ajakirigbene, Okirigbo, Yala-Bou, Sisegbin, Arogbo, Dibigbini, Latalie, and Otumara. The population of Ese Odo LGA is estimated at 169,703 inhabitants with the most populous ethnic group in the area being members of the Ijaw tribe. The Izon language is widely spoken in the area while Christianity and Islam are the commonly practiced religions in the LGA. Ese Odo LGA is home to a number of festivals which include the Buabo festival and the Boat Regatta festival.


GEOGRAPHY OF ESE-ODO

Ese Odo LGA covers a total area of 762 square kilometres and comprises a number of rivers and tributaries. The average temperature in Ese Odo LGA is 26 degrees centigrade while the average humidity of the area put at 84 percent. The average wind speed in Ese Odo LGA is 13 km/h.


ECONOMY OF ESE-ODO

Fishing is a major economic activity in Ese Odo LGA with the area’s rivers and tributaries being rich in various types of seafood. Farming is another important occupation of the people of Ese Odo LGA with crops such as cocoa, cowpea, rubber and plantain grown in the area. Ese Odo LGA also has a booming trade sector and hosts several markets where a variety of items are bought and sold.
