Akamkpa

Akamkpa local government area is located in Cross River state, Southsouth Nigeria. Created in 1976, Akamkpa LGA has its headquarters in the town of Akamkpa. Prominent tribes in Akamkpa LGA include the Ejagham and the Dusaya Iyoung with the LGA consisting of towns and villages such as Uyanga, Ikpi, Awi, Mbarakon, Eku, Iko, and Oban. Akamkpa LGA shares boundaries with Odukpani LGA, Akpabuyo LGA, the Republic of Cameroon and Ikom.

Akamkpa local government area has a rich agricultural heritage with the presence of a number of agricultural estates such as Kwa fall oil palm estate, Ayup Eku oil palm estate, the Crel Rubber estate, and the Calaro oil palm estate. The LGA is also rich in crude oil deposits while fishing is also a popular economic activity. Akakpam LGA is also rich in granite rocks with the area having over 30 quarrying companies.
