About Obubra Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Obubra local government area is found in Cross River state, South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of Obubra LGA are in the town of Obubra and the LGA is made up of a number of towns and villages which include Ababene, Iyamitet, Okom, Osopong, Iyalla, Ofat, Ofodua, and Ofombo-Ngha. The estimated population of Obubra LGA is put at 169,703 inhabitants with the LGA hosting members of diverse ethnic groups which include the Isobo and Mbembe ethnic affiliations. The Isobo and Mbembe languages are among those spoken in Obubra LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. A number of colourful festivals are held in Obubra LGA and these include the Otaba and Owakande festivals while the notable landmarks in the LGA include the NYSC permanent orientation camp and the IBB college of Agriculture.


GEOGRAPHY OF OBUBRA

Obubra LGA sits on a total area of 1,115 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 25 degrees centigrade. The LGA is well forested and has an average humidity level of 70 percent. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the rainy seasons in the area usually characterized by heavy and incessant showers. 


ECONOMY OF OBUBRA

A number of economic activities such as lumbering and fishing are very popular in Obubra LGA. Farming also thrives in Obubra LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as oil palm and rice. Other important occupations of the people of Obubra LGA include wood carving, hunting and craftsmanship.
