Akpabuyo

Akpabuyo local government area is found in Cross Rivers state which is domiciled in the Southsouth geopolitical enclave of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Akpabuyo LGA has its headquarters in the town of Ikot Nakanda and is made up of several towns and villages such as Atimbo, Ikot Edem Odo, Ikot Eyo, Ikang, and Idundu.

The major ethnic groups in Akpabuyo are the Efik, Qua, and the Efut with the Efik and English languages being the commonly spoken in the area. Christianity and traditional religion are the major religious affiliations in Akpabuyo.  Important landmarks in Akpabuyo include the Akpabuyo Investment company limited and the Arthur Jarvis University.

Akpabuyo local government area covers a total area measuring 1241 square kilometres with a humidity level of 88 percent. The average temperature of the area is 26 degrees centigrade while the area is also characterized by large forest reserves. Akpabuyo LGA also consists of several rivers and tributaries.

ECONOMY OF AKPABUYO

Fishing is a key economic activity in Akpabuyo LGA while farming is also popular in the area with crops such as cassava, cocoyam, coconut, pineapple, kolanut, and oil palm cultivated in large quantities. Akpabuyo LGA is also rich in minerals such as crude oil, limestone, and gold. Trade is also a major contributor to the economy of Akpabuyo with markets such as the Akpabuyo main market and the Ikang market providing shoppers with a variety of commodities.

Akpabuyo local government area was created in 1991 from the Odukpani local government area.
