Biase

Biase local government area is in Cross river state, Southsouth geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Akpet and consists of several towns and villages which include Akpet, Ubaghara, Okurike, Agwagune, Obum, Umuolor, Egbor, and Akparavuni. The population of Biase LGA is put at 127,482 inhabitants with the major tribes in the area being the Efik and the Ukpet. Christianity and traditional religion are the major religious affiliations in Biase LGA while the Efik language is widely spoken in the area.

GEOGRAPHY OF BIASE

Biase LGA covers a total area of 1,310 km squared and has a humidity of 93 percent. The average temperature of the area is 24 degrees centigrade while wind speed averages 13 km/h. Biase LGA also consists of several rivers and tributaries.

ECONOMY OF BIASE

Fishing is a very important economic activity in Biase LGA with the area being rich in seafood. Crop cultivation is also an important source of income for dwellers of Biase LGA with crops such as banana, cashew, kolanut, oil palm and yam grown in the area. The activities of oil mining companies in and around the area of Biase LGA contribute immensely to the economic growth of the LGA. Trade also blossoms in the area with markets such as the Akpet main market attracting thousands of sellers and buyers daily.
