Aninri

Aninri is one of the seventeen local government areas that make up Enugu state in the Southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria. With its headquarters in the town of Ndeaboh, Aninri boasts of several towns and villages which include Oduma, Nenwe, Ndeaboh, Mpu, and Okpanku. The population of Aninri is estimated at 97,865 inhabitants with the vast majority being members of the Igbo ethnic group.

Popular languages spoken in Aninri include the Igbo and English languages. Christianity is the commonly practiced religion with a lesser percentage being followers of the traditional religion. Aninri LGA is home to a number of festivals with the most prominent being the New Yam festival which is celebrated annually in the area.

GEOGRAPHY OF ANINRI

Aninri local government area has two major seasons which are the rainy season and the dry season with the latter characterized by a brief harmattan. The humidity of the area is estimated at 62 percent while the average temperature is put at 28.5 degrees centigrade. The total area covered by Aninri LGA is 364 square kilometres.

ECONOMY OF ANINRI

Aninri which translates as the land of food has a rich agricultural heritage. A majority of the area’s inhabitants engage in agricultural practices with crops such as yam, cassava, melon, cocoyam, pumpkins, and oil palm cultivated in substantial quantities. Also, commerce is a key economic enterprise in Aninri LGA with popular markets such as the Afor Okpanku market and the Oduma central market attracting large numbers of buyers and sellers.
