About Igbo Etiti Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Igbo etiti local government area is in Enugu state which is domiciled in the southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ogbede with the LGA comprising of several towns and villages such as Ikolo, Onyohor, Ukehe, Udueme, Aku, Ekwegbe, Ohemje, Diogbe, and Umunko. The estimated population of the LGA is 169,731 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Igb ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the area with Christianity as the widely practiced religion in the LGA. A number of colourful indigenous festivals are celebrated in Igbo etiti LGA and these include the Odo Masquerade, the Ahajioku, and the Mgboko-odobo festivals.


GEOGRAPHY OF IGBO ETITI

Igbo etiti LGA covers a total area of 325 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the total recorded rainfall in the LGA averaging at 1900 mm of rainfall per annum. The average wind speed in Igbo etiti is 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF IGBO ETITI

Farming is a major economic activity in Igbo etiti LGA with crops such as yam, cassava, kolanut, and cocoyam grown in substantially large quantities within the area. Trade also booms in the area with the LGA hosting a number of markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities in Igbo etiti LGA include palm wine tapping, wood work and craftsmanship.
