Oji-river

Oji River LGA is found in Enugu state, South-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Oji River. Oji River LGA is bordered by parts of Anambra and Abia states with the LGA made up of several towns and villages such as Akugoeze, Ugwuoba, Achi, Inyi, Awlaw, Umuokpara, Obune, and Amankpunator. The estimated population of Oji River LGA is put at 160,513 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is widely practiced in the area. A number of colourful festivals such as the Isiogba festival are celebrated in Oji river LGA while notable landmarks in the area include the Oji river thermal power plant and the Oji River Police College.

Oji river LGA occupies a total area of 403 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The popular Oji River from which the LGA derives its name originates and flows through the local government area. The average wind speed in the LGA is put at 10 km/h.

ECONOMY OF OJI-RIVER

Trade is a critical part of the economy of Oji River LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Oji river Urban market where a variety of goods and services are exchanged. Farming is also an important part of the economic activities in Oji river LGA with crops such as yam, cassava, and cocoyam and okro grown in the area. A number of minerals such as coal and clay are also found in Oji river LGA.
