About Isi Uzo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Isi uzo local government area is in Enugu state, Southeast geopolitical division of Nigeria. Isi uzo LGA is bordered by the Enugu East, Udeenu, and Nsukka LGAs and by parts of Benue and Ebony states.  The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ikem and the LGA is made up of a number of towns and villages such as Neke, Mbu, Umualor, Eha Amufu, Ikem, Odomogwo, Orokoro, Umuero, and Mbu Amom. The estimated population of Isi uzo LGA is 171,055 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Igbo ethnic group. The Igbo language is widely spoken in the area while Christianity and traditional religions are commonly practiced in the area. Popular festivals celebrated in isi uzo LGA include the Onwa-asaa and the Oruruesh festivals while notable landmarks in the LGA include the Federal College of Education Eha Amufu.


GEOGRAPHY OF ISI UZO

Isi uzo LGA covers a total area of 877 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while the average humidity level of the area is put at 69 percent.


ECONOMY OF ISI UZO

Farming is the major occupation of the dwellers of Isi uzo LGA with crops such as yam, cassava, maize, and cocoyam cultivated in large quantities within the area. Trade also flourishes in Isi uzo LGA with the area hosting several markets which include the Nkwo Neke market where a large number of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Isi uzo LGA include hunting, palm wine tapping and wood work.

Isi uzolocal government area was created in the year 1976.
