About Chikun Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Chikun local government area is located in Kaduna state, Northwest Nigeria. The headquarters of the area are in the town of Kujama and comprises of a number of towns and villages which include Bagado, Kashebo, Mafoina, Matari Kujama, Sabon-Tasha, Tsaunin Kura, Narayi, and Gayan. The population of Chikun LGA is put at 231,582 inhabitants with the dominant tribes in the area being the Gbagyi. Islam and Christianity are the widely practiced religions in the area while the Gbagyi language is extensively spoken in the area. The traditional administrator of the LGA is the Sa Gbagyi and one of the area’s landmarks is the Olam poultry plant.


GEOGRAPHY OF CHIKUN

Chikun LGA covers a total area of 4,645 square kilometres and has an average annual temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry season lasting from October-April while the rainy season commences in May and climaxes in September.


ECONOMY OF CHIKUN

Agriculture is the economic mainstay of the dwellers of Chikun LGA with a variety of crops grown in the area. Other important economic enterprises in Cbhikun LGA include pottery, mat making and cloth weaving. The area also has a vibrant trade sector and is home to several markets.
