About Kachia Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kachia local government area is in Kaduna state, Northwest Nigeria with headquarters in the town of Kachia. Towns and villages that make up Kachia LGA include Bichiru, Kachia, Sabon Sarki, Doka, Kurmin Mazuka, Ankwa, Awon, Sakwai, and Badoko. The estimated population of Kachia LGA is put at 289,107 inhabitants with the area mainly populated by members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic affiliations. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in Kachia LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the area. A number of prominent traditional rulers are found in Kachia LGA and these include the Agwon Adara while notable landmarks in Kachia LGA include the Ladugga grazing Reserves.


GEOGRAPHY OF KACHIA

Kachia LGA occupies a total area of 4,632 square kilometres and the area witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average temperature in Kachia LGA is put at 32 degrees centigrade while the area records an average precipitation level of 950 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF KACHIA

Farming is the major occupation of the people of Kachia LGA with crops such as soyabeans, ginger, and maize grown in large quantities within the area. The area is also popular for the rearing of a number of domestic animals such as cows and goats. Trade also flourishes in Kachia LGA with the area hosting several markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities undertaken by people of Kachia LGA include craftsmanship, leather works, pottery, and hunting.
