About Kagarko Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kagarko local government area is in Kaduna state, Northwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Kagarko. The area is made up of several towns and villages such as Jere, Dogon kurmi, Kagarko, Kushe, Kurmin Dagana,Shadalafiya, Kubacha, and Aribi. The estimated population of Kagarko LGA is put at 212,802 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Koro and Gbagyi ethnic divisions. The Koro and Gbagyi languages are spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the LGA. The Kagarko, Koro, and Jere chiefdoms are all situated in Kagarko LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF KAGARKO

Kagarko LGA occupies a total area of 1864 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the average humidity level of the area put at 39 percent.


ECONOMY OF KAGARKO

Farming is an important feature of the economy of Kagarko LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as ginger and millet. Trade also blossoms in Kagarko LGA with the area hosting a number of markets such as the popular Kubacha market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities in Kagarko LGA include pottery, hunting, and blacksmithing.
