About Andoni Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Andoni local government area is found in Rivers state, Southsouth Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ngo. Several towns and villages make up Andoni LGA and these include Asarama, Okoroboile, Ngo, and Oron-okpon. Christianity and traditional religion are the prominent religious affiliations in Andoni LGA while the area has an estimated population of 211,769 inhabitants with members of several tribes such as the Ogoni, Kalabari and the Ikwerre included among the area’s dwellers.

Important festivals held in Andoni LGA include the Okolondeng fishing festival, the Nwantam masquerade festival, and the Unyeada fishing festival.    


GEOGRAPHY OF ANDONI

The total area covered by Andoni LGA is 233 square kilometres with an average humidity of 90 percent. The average temperature of the area is 25 degrees centigrade with the landscape of the area featuring several rivers and tributaries.    


ECONOMY OF ANDONI

Andoni LGA has substantial deposits of crude oil and natural gas and the activities of oil mining companies form the bulk of the economy of the area. Fishing and farming are other popular economic activities engaged in by the inhabitants of Andoni LGA.

HISTORY OF ANDONI

Andoni local government area was created in the year 1991.
