About Ogu/bolo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ogu Bolo local government area is situated within Rivers state, South-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ogu. Towns and villages that are found in Ogu Bolo LGA include Mgbemgbeko, Odo kiri, Orabere, Anigoboka, Tendefe, Igafe, Ofunguru, Owukiri ama, Ogu, and Utu. The estimated population of Ogu Bolo LGA is put at 212,440 inhabitants with the area hosting members of the Ogu bolo ethnic sub divisions. The Ogu Bolo dialect is widely spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is commonly practiced in the area. Important festivals held in Ogu Bolo LGA include the Ogu festival while the notable landmarks in the area include the Government Secondary School, Ogu.


GEOGRAPHY OF OGU/BOLO

Ogu Bolo LGA covers a total area of 89 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 26 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and rainy seasons. A number of rivers and streams also flow through the LGA.


ECONOMY OF OGU/BOLO

Ogu Bolo LGA has a vibrant trade sector with the area hosting several markets such as the Olobulo market which attracts several buyers and sellers of diverse commodities. Other important economic activities of the people of Ogu Bolo LGA include farming, fishing, hunting, crafts making and wood carving.

Ogu Bolo LGA was created on the 1st of October 1996.
