About Asari-toru Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Asari toru local government area is located in Rivers state, Southsouth geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the town is in the town is in Buguma and comprises several towns and villages such as Apalama, Apama, Buguma, Ifoko, Ojiama, Owoko, Sangama, and Tema. The Asari toru LGA is dominated by the Kalabari ethnic division and the Kalabari and English languages are commonly spoken in the area. Christianity and traditional religion are the commonly practiced religions in Asari toru while the area is traditionally superintended over by the Amayanabo of Kalabari kingdom.

Asari toru LGA covers a total area of 113 square kilometres and has two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average temperature in Asari toru LGA is 25 degrees centigrade while the humidity of the area is pegged at 91 percent. Asari toru LGA has several rivers and tributaries.


ECONOMY OF ASARI-TORU

There are large reserves of crude oil and natural gas in Asari toru LGA and surrounding regions and the activities of oil mining companies within and around the area contribute the most to the economy of the area. Fishing is also a critical economic enterprise in Asari toru local government area.

HISTORY OF ASARI-TORU

Asari toru local government area was created in May 1989 from the Degema local government area.
