About Bonny Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Bonny is a local government area located within Rivers state, Southsouth Nigeria. The headquarters of the area are in the town of Bonny and comprises of several towns and villages which include Ogumabie, Ligakiri, Gbolokiri, Adamakiri, Otutunbi, Wasakiri, Otokolomabie, and Kuruama. The population of Bonny LGA is estimated at 172,549 inhabitants with Christianity and Paganism as the widely practiced religions in the area. The Amanyanabo of Bonny is the traditional ruler of the LGA. The popular landmarks in the area include the Bonny Liquefied Natural Gas plant.


GEOGRAPHY OF BONNY

Bonny LGA is an Island and lies within the Bight of Bonny. The LGA covers a total area of 646 square kilometres and features two distinct seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons. The average temperature of Bonny LGA is put at 25 degrees centigrade while the humidity level of the area is pegged at 92 percent.


ECONOMY OF BONNY

Bonny LGA is rich in deposits of crude oil with the area having large amounts of the Bonny light crude type. The Island of Bonny is of paramount importance to the economy of Nigeria as the area is a major export point for crude oil in Nigeria. The LGA is also home to the Bonny Liquefied Natural Gas plant which is the biggest in the whole of Nigeria. Other important economic activities that take place in Bonny LGA include fishing and trade.
