About Kontagora Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kontagora local government area is domiciled in Niger state, Northcentral Nigeria and is part of the Kotangora Emirate. The LGA hosts a number of towns and villages which include Udara, Ragadawa, Monde, Uzawe, Malo, Kamutu, and Buda Alala. The estimated population of Kotangora LGA is put at 151,236 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s population made up of members of the Kamberi ethnic group. The kamberi language is widely spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are commonly practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in the area include the Sarkin Sudan while the notable landmarks in the LGA include the Kotangora School of Nursing and the Kotangora dam.


GEOGRAPHY OF KONTAGORA

Kotangora LGA hosts the popular Kontagora River with the average temperature of the area put at 31 degrees centigrade. The area witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while the average wind speed in the area is 11km/h.


ECONOMY OF KONTAGORA

Agriculture is a key economic activity in Kotangora LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as sorghum, millet, cowpea, tobacco, and beans. The area hosts a few industries which include a plastic manufacturing plant. Trade also flourishes in Kotangora LGA with the area hosting a number of markets which attract thousands of buyers and sellers on a daily basis.

Kotangora LGA was created in the year 1976.
