About Lavun Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Lavun local government area is in Niger state, Northcentral Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Kutigi. The LGA comprises of several towns and villages such as Darafa, Batagi, Ekota, Esungi, Jiga, Makwagi, Ebangi, and Legbo. Lavun LGA is a part of the Bida Emirate and has an estimated population of 205,334 inhabitants with the area majorly populated by members of the Nupe tribal affiliation. The Nupe language is extensively spoken in Lavun LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area. A number of festivals such as the Gani cultural festival are held in the LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF LAVUN

Lavun LGA covers a total area of 2,835 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 31 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies on the shores of the Kaduna River and has an average humidity level of 39 percent. The average wind speed in Lavun LGA is put at 10km/h.


ECONOMY OF LAVUN

Agriculture is a key feature of Lavun LGA with crops such as millet and sugarcane grown in substantially large quantities in the area. The area is also home to a boisterous trade sector with the LGA hosting several markets where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other key economic features of Lavun LGA include pottery, mining, and hunting.
