Rijau

Rijau local government area is found in Niger state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Rijau. Towns and villages that make up Rijau LGA include Ayawu, Gazuma, Rimi, Masuga, Takalifiya,Tukura, Utamba, and Abonu. The current estimated population of Rijau LGA is put at 239,082 inhabitants with the area hosting members of the Kambari and the Dukawa ethnic affiliations. The Kambari and Dukawa languages are spoken in the LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Rijau LGA include the Sarkin Bauchi of Rijau.

GEOGRAPHY OF RIJAU

Rijau LGA occupies a total area of 3,196 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA experiences two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons while the total precipitation in the area is put at 1550 mm of rainfall per annum.

ECONOMY OF RIJAU

Rijau LGA is a hub for the cultivation of a wide variety of crops such as yam, millet, sugarcane, sorghum, and groundnut. A number of domestic animals such as cows, rams, and donkeys are reared and sold in Rijau LGA. Other important economic activities in Rijau LGA include trade, pottery, hunting, and crafts making.

Rijau LGA was created in the year 1976.
