About Mokwa Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Mokwa local government area is situated in Niger state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Mokwa. Towns and villages that make up Mokwa LGA include Arma, Kagogi, Mokwa, Shika, Yalwazab, Tika, Ndayako, Magun, and Fadegi. The estimated population of Mokwa LGA is put at 248,762 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Nupe ethnic group. The Nupe language is commonly spoken in Mokwa LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. Notable traditional rulers in Mokwa LGA include the Ndalile of Mokwa while the notable landmarks in the area include the Flour mills Nigeria limited Sunti Sugar estate.


GEOGRAPHY OF MOKWA

Mokwa LGA sits on a total area of 4,338 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA is situated off the shores of the River Niger and has an average humidity level of 30 percent.


ECONOMY OF MOKWA

Farming is an important economic activity in Mokwa LGA with crops such as onions, tomatoes, and sugarcane grown in large quantities in the area. Trade also flourishes in Mokwa LGA with the area hosting several markets which attract thousands of buyers and sellers on a daily basis. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Mokwa LGA include hunting, animal rearing, and crafts making.

HISTORY OF MOKWA

Mokwa LGA was created on the 19th of September 1991.
