About Lapai Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Lapai local government area is in Niger state, North-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Lapai. The LGA shares boundaries with the Federal Capital Territory and comprises of several towns and villages such as Birnin Maza, Bwache, Gabi, Kapako, Lenfa, Mukugi, Rulani, Gulu, and Ebbo. The estimated population of Lapai LGA is put at 173,842 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Gwari and Nupe ethnic groups. The Gwari and Nupe languages are commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Islam and Christianity are widely practiced in the LGA. Lapai LGA is a part of the Lapai Emirate.


GEOGRAPHY OF LAPAI

Lapai LGA sits on a total area of 3051 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 30 degrees centigrade. The LGA lies on the banks of the Gurara river and has an average humidity level of 39 percent. The average wind speed in Lapai LGA is put at 11 km/h.


ECONOMY OF LAPAI

A number of crops such as rice, millet, yam, sorghum, groundnut, and shea nuts are cultivated in large quantities within the Lapai LGA. Trade also flourishes in the LGA with the area hosting several markets where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Lapai LGA include hunting, blacksmithing, and leatherworks.
