Abeokuta South

Abeokuta South local government area is found within the city of Abeokuta in Ogun state, Southwest Nigeria. The LGA which was created in 1981 comprises of towns and villages which include Emero, Ijemo, Itoko, Oke Ijeun, and Ibara with the headquarters of the LGA being at Ake Abeokuta.

Abeokuta South covers a total area of 71 km squared and has an estimated population of 214,606 inhabitants with the members of the Yoruba ethnic group forming the bulk majority of the area’s inhabitants. Christianity and Islam are the major religious affiliations while popular festivals held in the area include the Egungun festival, the Igunuko festival, and the Oro festival.

Important places to visit in Abeokuta South include the Akin Olugbade social center, the Alake palace ground, and the Elite club house.
