Ijebu northeast local government area is in Ogun state, Southwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Atan. The LGA shares boundaries with Ijebu east, Ijebu North, Ijebu Ode, and Odogbolu local government areas. Towns and villages that make up Ijebu Northeast LGA include Tiradona, Omutedo, Latibigun, Ododeyo, Irewon, Idotun, Alemafo, Gbawojo, and Idagunke. The estimated population of Ijebu Northeast LGA is 155, 864 inhabitants with the predominant tribal affiliation in the area being the Yoruba. The Yoruba language is widely spoken in the LGA while Islam and Christianity are extensively practiced in the area. Important festivals held in Ijebu Northeast LGA include the Egungun Idemunu festival while notable landmarks in the area include the Bilikisu Sungbo shrine.

Ijebu northeast LGA was created on the 13th day of December 1996 from the Ijebu-ode LGA.
