About Odeda Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Odeda local government area is found in Ogun state, South-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Odeda with the LGA sharing boundaries with the Obafemi Owode LGA and with parts of Oyo state. The towns and villages that make up Odeda LGA include Osiele, Odeda, Olugbo, Ilugun, Opeji, Obantoko, Akonko, and Alabata. The estimated population of Odeda LGA is put at 227,630 inhabitants with the vast majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Egba sub-division of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Egba dialect of the Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are practiced in the area. Prominent traditional rulers in Odeda LGA include the Agura of Gbagura.


GEOGRAPHY OF ODEDA

Odeda LGA covers a total area of 1560 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 27 degrees centigrade. The Asag and Otere rivers flow through the area with the average humidity level of the LGA put at 61 percent. The average wind speed in Odeda LGA is put at 10 km/h.


ECONOMY OF ODEDA

Trade is an important aspect of the economy of Odeda LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the popular Kila market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. Farming also flourishes in Odeda LGA with crops such as cocoa and plantain grown in fairly large quantities within the area. Odeda LGA also has rich grasslands which are suitable for the grazing of ruminants.
