About Ewekoro Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ewekoro local government area is in Ogun state, Southwest Nigeria with the headquarters of the area in the town of Itori. Ewekoro LGA shares borders with Ifo, Abeokuta north, and Obafemi Owode LGAs.  Towns and villages that make up Ewekoro LGA include Asipa, Ikereku, Ilawo, Itori Alase, Lambo, Pataleri, Ojo, and Ika. The population of Ewekoro LGA is estimated at 108,944 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Egba sub-division of the Yoruba tribe. The Yoruba language is the widely spoken language in the area while popular festivals held in the LGA include the Lisabi festival while the notable landmarks in the area include the Ewekoro cement plant and the Segun Odegbami sports academy in Orile Wasimi.


GEOGRAPHY OF EWEKORO

Ewekoro local government area covers a total area of 594 square kilometres and witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The average temperature of the area is put at 28 degrees centigrade while the humidity level of the LGA averages 63 percent.


ECONOMY OF EWEKORO

Ewekoro LGA has large deposits of limestone and has the presence of the Lafarge Africa owned Cement plant. Farming is also an important economic feature in Ewekoro LGA with crops such as cocoa, maize, and cocoyam grown in the area. Ewekoro LGA also has a vibrant trade sector with the area hosting several markets which include the Wasimi market where residents of the area go to buy and sell a plethora of commodities.

HISTORY OF EWEKORO

Ewekoro LGA was created in the year 1981.
