About Ijebu North Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ijebu north local government area is in Ogun state which is in the Southwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Ijebu north LGA is bordered by parts of Oyo state and by the Ijebu east, Ijebu Northeast, Odogbolu, Ijebu ode and Ikenne LGAs. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Ijebu Igbo with the LGA comprising of several towns and villages such as Ijebu Igbo, Ago-iwoye, Oru, Awa, Ilaporu, Atikori, Ojowo, Japara, and Ome. The estimated population of Ijebu north LGA is 163,541 inhabitants with the area being mainly populated by members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the LGA with Christianity and Islam as the most practiced religions in the area. Ijebu Noth LGA has a number of prominent traditional rulers such as the Orimolusi of Ijebu igbo. Notable landmarks in Ijebu north LGA include the Annex of the Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Ijebu north LGA covers a total area of 967 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of Ijebu north LGA is 63 percent while the average total precipitation level of the area is pegged at 1800 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF IJEBU NORTH

Ijebu north LGA has a vibrant trade sector with the area hosting several markets such as the popular station market where a wide variety of commodities are bought and sold. The LGA also has a productive agricultural sector with crops such as cocoa, kolanut, cotton and a variety of fruits grown in the LGA.
