About Ijebu Ode Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Ijebu ode local government area is found in Ogun state, Southwest Nigeria. The LGA is the capital of the Ijebu kingdom and is made up of several towns and villages which include Iganke, Abapawa, Erinlu, Idi mmango, Idona, Atakobo, Gbawojo, Omidudu, and Mobalufon. The traditional administrator of the LGA is known as the Awujale of Ijebu land and he superintends over the traditional affairs of the entire Ijebu land. The estimated population of Ijebu ode LGA is 193,563 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Yoruba language is widely spoken in the LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are extensively practiced in the LGA.  Important festivals held in Ijebu ode LGA include the Agemo and the Ojude Oba festivals while notable landmarks in the area include the Ijebu Ode stadium and the Ijebu ode grammar school.

Ijebu ode local government area occupies a total area of 192 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The average humidity level of Ijebu ode LGA is 63 percent while the average total precipitation level of the area is pegged at 1800 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF IJEBU ODE

Ijebu ode LGA has a vibrant trade sector and hosts a number of important markets such as the Kuto market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold by the people of the area. Farming also contributes immensely to the economy of Ijebu ode with crops such as cotton, tobacco, cassava, and yam grown in substantially large quantities within the area. Ijebu ode LGA also hosts a number of banks, hotels, and other institutions both publicly and privately owned.
