Ikenne

Ikenne local government area is in Ogun state, southwest Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ikenne. Ikenne LGA shares boundaries with the Odogbolu and Ayepe LGAs with the LGA consisting of towns and villages such as Ilishan, Ogere, Ipere, Irolu, Ikenne, Idotun, and Shasha.  The estimated population of Ikenne LGA is 134,782 inhabitants with the predominant dwellers of the area being members of the Yoruba ethnic group. The Ijebu dialect of the Yoruba language is commonly spoken in the area while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the LGA. A number of festivals are held in Ikenne LGA and these include the Oro festival while notable landmarks in the area include the Babcock University and the Ogun state Institute of Social development.

Ikenne LGA occupies a total area of 144 square kilometres and has an annual average temperature of 28 degrees centigrade. The Uren stream flows through the LGA whilst the average humidity level of the area is 64 percent. The average wind speed in Ikenne LGA is 11 km/h.

ECONOMY OF IKENNE

Farming is a key economic activity of the people of Ikenne LGA with crops such as cocoa, plantain, and pepper grown in the area. The area also has a booming trade sector with the LGA hosting several markets such as the Ikenne main market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Other important economic activities engaged in by the people of Ikenne LGA include hunting, craftsmanship and woodwork.

Ikenne LGA was created from the defunct Remo LGA in the year 1991.
