About Song Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Song local government area is situated in Adamawa state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Song with the area constituted of several towns and villages which include Ditera, Mboi, Song, Waltadi, Zumo, Gben, Mbilla, Loko, and Chukkol. The current population of Song LGA is put at 231,444 inhabitants with the area primarily occupied by members of the Bata ethnic groups. The Bata language is commonly spoken in Song LGA while the religions of Christianity and Islam are widely practiced in the area. A number of colourful festivals are held in Song LGA and these include the popular Yungur Dance festival.

Song LGA has an average temperature of 31 degrees centigrade. The LGA’s landscape is dotted by a few hills with the area having an average wind speed of 11km/h. The LGA also has a few streams and rivers flowing through its territory.


ECONOMY OF SONG

Agriculture is the economic mainstay of the people of Song LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as tomatoes, rice, guineacorn, and soybeans. The LGA is also renowned for the rearing and sales of a variety of domestic animals such as cows, donkeys, and sheep. Other important economic activities in Song LGA include trade, hunting, and crafts making.
