About Sabon Birni Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Sabon Birni local government area is in Sokoto state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Sabon Birni. Sabon Birni LGA is bordered by parts of Niger Republic and the LGA made up of several towns and villages such as Tara, Kukawa, Gatawa, Tsamaye, Kalgo, Laginga, Gangara, and Makuwana. The LGA has an estimated population of 273,842 inhabitants with the area mostly populated by members of the Hausa and the Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa and the Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area.

Sabon Birni LGA occupies a total area of 2354 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA has an average wind speed of 10 km/h while the total precipitation in the area is put at an estimated 1150 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF SABON BIRNI

Sabon Birni LGA is a hub for trade with the area hosting several markets such as the popular Sabon Birni market where a variety of commodities are bought and sold. Farming is also an important economic activity in Sabon Birni LGA with crops such as onions, rice, sorghum and millet grown in the area. Other important economic activities in Sabon Birni LGA include hunting, animal rearing, and crafts making.
