About Wamakko Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Wamako local government area is situated within Sokoto state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the LGA are in the town of Wamako and the LGA comprises of several towns and villages which include Kammata, Gwamatse, Kokani Cidawa, Kauran, Kimaba, Wamako, Bakin kusu, Wajeke, Arkilla, and Kalambaina. The current estimated population of Wamako LGA is put at 245,611 inhabitants with the area predominantly occupied by members of the Hausa/Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is extensively practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Wamako LGA include the Sokoto State University, the NYSC permanent Orientation Camp and the Government day Secondary School.


GEOGRAPHY OF WAMAKKO

Wamako LGA sits on a total area of 697 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the rainy and the dry seasons with the Sokoto River flowing through the area.


ECONOMY OF WAMAKKO

Wamako LGA has a viable trade sector and hosts a number of markets such as the Sabon Garin Alu central market where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. The rearing and sales of animals such as horses, camels, goats, and sheep is also practiced in the Wamako LGA. Other important economic activities in Wamako LGA include farming, pottery, and leather works.
