About Shagari Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Shagari local government area is found in Sokoto state, North-west geopolitical zone of Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Shagari. The LGA shares boundaries with parts of Zamfara state and comprises of a number of towns and villages which include Doruwa, Rugga, Bulanyaki, Lungu, Lambara, Gangam, Angur, and Shagari. The LGA has an estimated population of 212,820 inhabitants with the area primarily populated by members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa language is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area. Notable landmarks in Shagari LGA include the Shagari Earth Dam.


GEOGRAPHY OF SHAGARI

Shagari LGA occupies a total area of 1332 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the rainy and dry seasons with the total precipitation level in the area put at 1250 mm of rainfall per annum.


ECONOMY OF SHAGARI

Shagari LGA is a hub for the rearing and sales of a variety of domestic animals such as cows, goats, horses, and camels. Thepeople of the LGA are also known to engage in farming with the areaknown for the cultivation of a variety of crops such as sorghum, sugarcane, millet, and rice. Other important occupations undertaken by the people of Shagari LGA include hunting, pottery and leatherv works.
