Fika

Fika local government area is in Yobe state, Northeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria with the headquarters of the LGA domiciled in the town of Fika. A number of towns and villages make up Fika LGA and these include Gadaka, Dumbulwa, Gashinge, Turmi, Ngaida, Mazawun, kadi, and Gudi. Fika LGA is part of the Fika Emirate. The estimated population of Fika LGA is put at 151,238 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Hausa, Kanuri, Ngamo, and Fulani ethnic groups. The Hausa, Kanuri, Ngamo, and the Fufulde languages are widely spoken in the area while Islam is the major religious affiliation in the area. Popular festivals held in Fika LGA include the Kamti festival while notable landmarks in the area include the Government Secondary School, Fika.

GEOGRAPHY OF FIKA

Fika LGA covers a total area of 2,208 square kilometres and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons. The area has a number of rivers and tributaries flowing through it such as the Ngeji river. The average temperature of the LGA is put at 35 degrees centigrade while the humidity level of the area averages 18 percent.

ECONOMY OF FIKA

A number of crops such as groundnut, beans, guineacorn, sorghum, and millet are grown in substantially large quantities in Fika LGA. Also, there are large deposits of minerals such as kaolin, gypsum, and limestone in the area. Trade is another important economic feature in Fika LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Ngalda cattle market. Other important enterprises engaged in by the people of Fika LGA include fishing, hunting, and cattle rearing.
