About Nguru Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Nguru local government area is domiciled in Yobe state, North-east Nigeria and has its hadquarters in the town of Nguru. Nguru LGA is made up of several towns and villages which are mostly populated by members of ethnic divisions such as the Kanuri, Bedde, and Manga. The Kanuri and Hausa languages are commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area. Nguru LGA is a part of the Nguru Emirate and has a number of notable landmarks such as the Federal Medical Center, Nguru.


GEOGRAPHY OF NGURU

Nguru LGA occupies a total area of 916 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 33 degrees centigrade. The LGA hosts a number of water bodies such as the Nguru lake and the Hadejia and Nguru Rivers. The popular Hadejia-Nguru wetlands are also found in Nguru LGA while some parts of the LGA are characterized by sand dunes and have arid and desert-like features.


ECONOMY OF NGURU

Farming is a key economic activity in Nguru LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as millet, sorghum, groundnut, cotton, and cowpea. The making and sales of hides and skin is also a critical aspect of the economy of Nguru LGA. Other important economic activities in Nguru LGA include trade, fishing and leather works.
