Potiskum

Potiskum local government area is domiciled in Yobe state, North-east geopolitical zone of Nigeria with the the headquarters of the LGA residing in Potiskum town. The LGA is made up of several towns, districts and villages which include Piri, Mussa, Mamudo, Bauchi Road, Indiski, and Kandahar. Potiskum LGA has a current estimated population of 198,404 inhabitants with the area mostly inhabited by members of the Bolewa, Ngizim, and Kare-kare tribes. The Bolewa and Hausa languages are spoken in Potiskum LGA while the religions of Islam and Christianity are practiced in the area. Potiskum LGA is home to the Potiskum Emirate while the notable landmarks in the LGA include the General Hospital Potiskum and the Government Technical Science College.

Potiskum LGA has a vibrant trade sector and hosts the expansive Potiskum cattle market which is one of the largest cattle markets in the whole of West Africa. The LGA also hosts the Potiskum Grains market and the Kasuwar Jagwal GSM market which attract thousands of buyers and sellers. Farming is also an important economic feature in Potiskum LGA with crops such as millet, sorghum, soybeans, guineacorn, and groundnuts grown in the LGA.
