Fune

Fune local government area is situated in Yobe state, Northeast Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Damagum. Several towns and villages make up Fune LGA and these include Balanyiwa, Jamara, Sudande, Kwalte, Jamari, Fulatari, Banshe, and Alagarno. Fune LGA has a number of prominent traditional rulers and these include the Emir of Ngaelzarma. The estimated population of Fune LGA is 152,611 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Hausa and Fulani ethnic divisions. The Hausa and Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in the area while Islam is the most practiced religion in the LGA. Popular festivals held in Fune LGA include the Baraku Annual festival.

Fune LGA sits on a total area of 4,948 square kilometres and witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the dry season in the area featuring extreme sunshine and high temperatures. The Komadugu Gana river flows through Fune LGA while the average temperature of the area is put at 34 degrees centigrade.

ECONOMY OF FUNE

Agriculture is the major economic activity in Fune LGA with a variety of crops grown in the area while animals such as cattle, goats, and donkeys are reared in the area. Trade is also a critical feature of the economy of Fune LGA with the area hosting several markets such as the Ngelzarma cattle market. Other important economic engagements of the people of Fune LGA include hunting, pottery and matmaking.
