About Fakai Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Fakai local government area is in Kebbi state which is domiciled in the Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The headquarters of the area are in the town of Mahuta and the LGA consists of towns and villages which include Matseri, Inga, Rini, Gelle, Darmi, Bangu, Yelwa, Kangi, Magaji, and Fakai. Fakai LGA is part of the Zuru Emirate. The estimated population of Fakai LGA is put at 171,642 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s populace made up of members of the Fulani and Hausa ethnic divisions. The fufulde and Hausa languages are mostly spoken in the LGA while Islam is the widely practiced religion in the area. There are a number of colourful festivals held in Fakai LGA and these include the Uhola festival. Notable landmarks in Fakai LGA include the ISS-HASS Nigeria limited company.


GEOGRAPHY OF FAKAI

Fakai local government area covers a total area of 2,247 square kilometres with the LGA witnessing two seasons which are a long dry season and a short rainy seaon. The average temperature of Fakai LGA is put at 35 degrees centigrade with humidity levels of the area averaging 22 percent.


ECONOMY OF FAKAI

Agriculture is the major occupation of the people of Fakai LGA as a number of crops such as onions, rice, millet and sorghum are grown in the area. Also, a number of animals such as cows, goats, and donkeys are reared in Fakai LGA. Trade also blossoms in Fakai LGA with the area hosting several markets where a plethora of commodities are bought and sold. These markets include the Fakai central market. A number of mineral resources such as Gold are also found in Fakai LGA and the area hosts a number of mining companies.
