Shanga

Shanga local government area is domiciled in Kebbi state, North-west geopolitical enclave of Nigeria. The LGA has its headquarters in the town of Shanga and is made up of several towns and villages such as Kwanji, Shanga, Golongo, Sawashi, Hundeji, Takware, Rafin Kirya, and Sakace. The current estimated population of Shanga LGA is put at 279,002 inhabitants with the area predominantly occupied by members of the Shanga ethnic division. The Shanga dialect is commonly spoken in the LGA while the religion of Islam is widely practiced in the area. Shanga LGA is a part of the prestigious Yauri Emirate and has a number of notable landmarks such as the Science and Technology College, Shanga.

GEOGRAPHY OF SHANGA

Shanga LGA occupies a total area of 1,642 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two major seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the dry seasons in the area usually characterized by extremely hot and humid weather.

ECONOMY OF SHANGA

Trade flourishes in Shanga LGA with the area hosting several markets which include the popular Tugan Giwa market which attracts a multitude of traders and buyers of diverse items. Farming is also an important feature in the economy of Shanga LGA with the area known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as rice and onions. Other economic enterprises engaged in by the dwellers of Shanga LGA include animal rearing and hunting.
