About Kalgo Local Government Area (L.G.A)

Kalgo local government area is in Kebbi state, Northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria with its headquarters in the town of Kalgo. The LGA is bordered by the Bunza LGA and is made up of a number of towns and villages such as Danaganna, Gayi, Badariya, Kuka, Nayalwa, Magarza, Diggi, Hirishi, and Kalgo. The estimated population of Kalgo LGA is put at 163,414 inhabitants with the majority of the area’s inhabitants being members of the Hausa and Fulani tribes. The Hausa and the Fufulde languages are commonly spoken in Kalgo LGA while Islam is the most practiced religion in the LGA.


GEOGRAPHY OF KALGO

Kalgo LGA covers a total area of 1,173 square kilometres and has an average temperature of 34 degrees centigrade. The LGA witnesses two distinct seasons which are the dry and the rainy seasons with the rainy seasons in the area often characterized by light and irregular showers. The average humidity level of Kalgo LGA is 24 percent.


ECONOMY OF KALGO

Agriculture is the major contributor to the economy of Kalgo LGA with crops such as rice and water melon grown in large quantities within the area. The LGA is also a hub for the rearing and sale of a variety of domestic animals such as cows and camels. Trade also flourishes in Kalgo LGA with the area hosting a number of markets where a variety of commodities are bought and sold.

HISTORY OF KALGO

Kalgo LGA was created in the year 1996 from the Bunza LGA.
